Edge panel v3 — icon column, much narrower

Why v3 is much narrower

• The point isn't to show the tools — the operator already knows the tools. The point is "how do I get to them without losing my place on the page"
• 2-col grid wastes horizontal space — 2 cells × 95px = 190px when 1 col × 130px with icon + 8px name gives the same info in 30% less width
• Single column = scrollable list — all 12 tools fit in a vertical list that's glanceable not readable. Names get tooltips on hover/tap. Visual scan finds icons faster than reading labels
• App stays visible — 250px of free space on mobile (vs 170px in v2) means the operator can still see the section they're editing while the panel is open
• Super-narrow (72px) as a floor — icon-only mode for when the operator really wants max app visibility. Tooltip on tap shows the name. Like the dock pills, but as a separate panel

Width formula

• Default: 140px mobile, 160px tablet, 180px desktop
• Hard cap: max-width: 33vw — never more than ⅓ of viewport
• Floor: 72px — below that icons overlap, panel becomes unusable
• Resize range: 72px to 33vw (operator can drag)
• Persists in localStorage: fvcms.edgePanelWidth
• Snap points: 72px (icon-only), 140px (mobile default), 200px (with description), 33vw

What stays the same

• The dock system — unchanged, untouched, still the primary tool surface
• The Dev toggle — still the entry point (clicking it opens the edge panel)
• The edge handle — still the gesture (4px wide, right edge, swipe to open)
• The 2-tab system (Tools / Recent) — same tabs, just narrower
• The persistent footer (+ Section / + Container / + Widget) — just shrunk

What changes

• Layout: 2-col grid → 1-col icon list
• Width: ~25% → ~13% on desktop, 56% → 36% on mobile
• Name visibility: always visible (truncated if needed) + tooltip on hover
• Badges: still visible (e.g. History "3")
• Footer: smaller buttons, abbreviated labels (+ S / + C / + W on mobile)
• Super-narrow mode: 72px icon-only, tooltip on tap
